Ay-Oh! Jerseyites! Give Us a Slice….

Hey everyone,

In the coming weeks, GoOutJersey will be searching for the Best Pizza Slice in this region. We’ll be wandering — with grease dripping down our chins and a trail of paper plates in our wake — from North Arlington to Kearny, Clifton, Hoboken, Nutley and beyond (well, not too far beyond).

This is obviously a lot of ground to cover and with some seriously steep competition, so help us out! You’re from Jersey, which means you’re opinionated and vocal, so let us know your favorite pizza parlor, where it is, and why you’d recommend them. Post your comments below, for all to see and agree/disagree with you.

I have friends who swear by Pizzaland but I’ve actually never tried it. You should go there, though - it’s famous, thanks to the sopranos. My favorite used to be the one called Donna Marie’s on Ridge Rd in N. Arlington, across from Queen of Peace - two slices and a coke were less than $3. I haven’t been passed there in a while so I dunno if they’re still there, or who owns it now if it is. I’d recommend them - crispy crust, never floppy and always cheesy. Greasy of course, but what the hey.

I like JoJo’s in Lyndhurst - Ridge Road. They only deliver - you can’t really eat there. Good gravy - kinda sweet. They’re never skimpy with the toppings. Good thin crust.

I LOVE JoJo’s in Lyndhurst on Ridge Road. You can’t eat right there, but I prefer eating at home anyway. My family usually gets a variety of toppings on theirs; but, I like leaving my pizza “au naturale”. To me, that is the best way to judge the pizza sauce. And Jojo’s is absolutely wonderful! Besides, they have yet to botch up an order. We also love their “Chicken Annie” which is chicken with penne pasta and broccoli rabe. In fact, we love most of the dinners they produce and totally fell in love with their buffalo wings last night!!

folks need to cross the bridge. what about ralphs? or michaels? or, venturing up a little further to the hallowed streets of montclair (and i recommend marios on broad st if you can’t make it the whole 10 minutes without a slice), mr dinos (watchung ave, classic) and soho (valley road, fancier but maintaining true jersey pizza perfection) await. i think i have to cast my vote for ralphs (corner of franklin & high) as #1, however, given their ability to do A+ greasy slices, classy dinner pies, and now still-totally-addictive whole wheat crusts. you never get phony sauce or too much crust or cheese. ralphs is the zen temple of pizza in nutley, which is obviously the pizza capital of the world.

I’m not from Northern NJ.. I’m a southern NJ girl :) But if you want great pizza then you have to go to Joe & Johns on New Jersey Ave in Absecon. There are other places that are almost as good.

Without question the best pizza in NJ can be had at Mr Bruno’s in Lyndhurst at the OLD Shop Rite Plaza on Valley Brook Ave. Just order a SQUARE slice (not sicilian) and have at it. Be warned: you will be ruined forever and foresake all others. They recently expanded their location into a bona fide sit down eatery, but have been a town staple for generations.
