If the idea of kayaking through the “water” of the Hudson River always seemed strangely appealing to you, but the idea of paying for such a privilege put the kibosh on your dreams, check out today’s Click This!
SUNDAY, July 6, is Hoboken Cove Boathouse’s Free Kayaking Day and it’s open to novices and experts alike. It sounds like a great way to get involved with local, grassroots adventure-seekers. According to their website, “HCCB is currently supported by voluntary help and borrowed kayaks and equipment from the Downtown Boathouse in Manhattan. Trained kayakers will be hand to provide tips for new paddlers.” (sic)
Even if you’re not interesting in getting that close to the (actually cleaner) Hudson, go to this page on their site where you can support the Boathouse in encouraging the director of planning to expand public access to the water.
If you’ve gone to these free kayaking events in previous years, you’re still going to want to click here because they’ve changed locations!
Thanks to a reader for telling us about this!

Ok, so while we may advocate massive consumption and enjoyment of calories, we aren’t against being healthy or going exercising. However, it is fun to see a site explain how sit-ups can actually be bad for you. Finally!

Well, I’ll tell you what I’ll be doing Tuesday. It’s crawfish season at Oddfellows, and they’re selling them by the pound every Tuesday night April 29th-June 24th. I’ve never been to Oddfellows and I’ve never eaten crawfish whole. I know they’re local to Louisiana, and I have heard good things about Oddfellows, so it seemed like something I just had to do. I had to wonder, though, if there’s a special way to eat them, so to get ready I’ve been checking out some funny videos on Youtube. How did I know someone had to have an instructional video posted there? And then to discover there are several How to Eat Crawfish videos..
You can expect my review soon after, with all the info from Oddfellows. Until then, click on the link above to drool over their menu like I am. I’m curious to see if their prices for crawfish have increased since last year due to the economy. We’ll see!

Go to Applegate Farms every Wednesday in May, from 4-8PM, for a free scoop! To help them celebrate their 160th anniversary, the Jersey-based ice cream shops are giving away a junior sugar/wafer cone or cup of ice cream. All you have to do is bring this coupon. Click the link for a list of locations as well.

Hudson Restaurant Week 2008 is just 2 weeks away!
From Jan 28 - Feb 8: thirty-two participating restaurants will offer prix-fixed meals at reduced prices. And new for 2008? Eight new restaurants have been added to the list: Hudson Tavern, City Vino, Azucar, East LA, Gaslight, Harsimus Cove, Ox and Sawadee.
Prix-fixe lunches start at $13 and dinners start at $23 (beverage, tax and gratuity not included). An up-to-date list of restaurants, menus and details can be found at www.hudsonrestaurantweek.com or call 201-388- 6232.
If it weren’t for Hudson Restaurant Week, I probably never would have been able to afford Hudson Bar & Grill, so it’s definitely a really great way to enjoy restaurants that may otherwise be out of your wallet’s league.

“Just before Thanksgiving last year, police in the quiet northern Jersey community of Ramsey in Bergen County responded to a call about a roving pack of troublemakers who had snarled up traffic during the morning rush hour. An NJ Transit station security camera captured a grainy image of the hoodlums gathered at the edge of the train platform, looking like they were waiting for the next train.”
Well, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without some random, odd news story, right? Well, this one I just had to share since that quote above is describing turkeys. Yup, as you’re gobbling down your bird (or vegetarian variation), you can interrupt your feuding familia with news about how the wild turkey is happily roaming our Garden State yet again.

I just found a website I’d like to share with you. Healthy Dining Finder, from a company based in California, analyzes restaurant menus and tells you what’s healthy there. Sounds like a great idea. The only downside at the moment is that the great majority of places reviewed (at least in our area) are fast food (there’s healthy stuff at BK?) or other chains (like Chili’s and Chevy’s). And even some of those (Red Lobster) haven’t been reviewed yet. So, maybe in a few months or a year it’ll be really worth checking it out.
In the meantime, if you’re visiting, say, San Diego, California, you could use it to check out restaurants there. More than just fast food and chains seem to have been reviewed already.
So, if you want more local favorites to list with them, you have to tell them about the site. Unfortunately Healthy Dining Finder asks restaurant-goers to print out an informational sheet and tell the restaurants themselves to go sign up. It’d be better if we could tell HDF to contact the restaurant, but they probably don’t have a staff member for each state.
